Rattlers Sweep Dustdevils in Friday's Doubleheader

LAREDO, Texas - The St. Mary's University Rattlers swept the Texas A&M International University Dustdevils in Heartland Conference doubleheader action on Friday afternoon at Uni-Trade Stadium.  The Rattlers benefited from dominating pitching performances in both games, winning game one 12-0 before taking game two 11-2.

St. Mary's Matt McClain limited the Dustdevils to two hits, back-to-back two out singles in the fifth inning, in the opener.  St. Mary's bashed 15 hits against five Dustdevil pitchers with Jeremy Gonzalez (3-9) taking the loss for TAMIU after allowing six runs on nine hits in a 5.1 inning outing.

Strong pitching by the Rattlers and shaky defense by the Dustdevils were decisive factors in game two.  Rattler starter Kris Gardner limited TAMIU to two runs (one earned) on six hits in 8.0 innings of work while seven Dustdevil errors led to eight unearned Rattler runs.

TAMIU finished with six hits in the loss with Cody Perez and Daniel Cruz finishing with two hits apiece.

TAMIU and St. Mary's closeout the regular season tomorrow with a single game.  First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Senior Day.
