HAYS, Kansas (September 27, 2015) -- The Dustdevils traveled to #11 Fort Hayes State to deliver a strong performance that resulted in a 3-0 shut out win on Sunday.
TAMIU started the scoring early as Senior Tayeb Ahmadi netted his first of the season in the 4th minute. Ahmadi beat Fort Hays' Keeper Michael Yantz from 10 yards out, and placed the ball in the middle of the goal.
The momentum contiued rolling for the Dustdevils, and were awarded approriately in the 8th minute. Senior Ryan Hodgson hustled to generate a breakaway into Tigers' territory. Hodgson beat Yantz in the top right corner, putting TAMIU up 2-0 early in the first half. The goal was Hodgson's third of the season.
Second half play started with cautions to both the Dustdevils and the Tigers in the early minutes, showing the grit of both squads. In the 76th minute, Sophomore Michael Iskander volleyed the ball past Yantz and into the net, putting the Dustdevils up 3-0. Iskander's first goal of the season was assisted by Senior Tayeb Ahmadi, his third assist of 2015. Senior Goalkeeper Miguel Lucio played all 90 minutes of the contest, and made 5 saves in the shut out win.
Up next for the Dustdevils is Texas - Permian Basin (3-4), in their first Conference match of the season. TAMIU defeated the Falcons 2-0 in their non-conference season opener at home on September 3rd. This match will be played on Thursday, October 1st at 5pm in Odessa, Texas.
