LAREDO, Texas (September 3, 2015) – Texas A&M International University's Men's Soccer Team opened up the regular season with an exciting 2-0 shutout over the University of Texas - Permian Basin on Thursday night. The first match of the year granted the Dustdevils with a 1-0 start to the 2015 season.

The Dustdevils dominated the first half. Scoring was opened by a re-directed header of TAMIU's Juan Ramirez, with the assist from the kick going to Abraham Lopez. Lopez placed a perfect corner kick from the near post, to the center of the goal, allowing the Dustdevils to draw first blood in minute 5.

Freshman Edson Venegas made his debut for TAMIU, pressing continuously to the Falcon's net. Venegas lead the team with two shots, both of which were denied by Texas Permian - Basin's Justin Bryant.

TAMIU kept the pressure on after the first goal. In minute 21, Ryan Hodgson was fed a drop pass from Tayeb Ahmadi, which was chipped in for TAMIU's second goal of the night. Hodgson's goal came from 12 yards out.

Dustdevils' Head Coach, Claudio Arias, commented, "Happy for the victory and for our guys execution of our game plan. Great team effort."

Keeper Antonio Romero stopped all 7 shots he faced, earning him a shutout for his first game this season.

The Dustdevils look to improve their 1-0 record next on Saturday, September 5th, when West Texas A&M comes to Laredo. The action starts at 7:30pm, at Dustdevils Field.
