Prieto powers Dustdevils past UTPB

ODESSA, Texas (January 16, 2016) -- The Texas A&M International Women's Basketball team defeated Heartland Conference opponent UTPB, 77-49, Saturday afternoon. The Dustdevils move to 8-8 overall and 5-3 in the Heartland Conference.
 
After a tight first quarter, the Dustdevils controlled the final 30 minutes of play. TAMIU outscored their opponent 16-7 in the second quarter and never looked back. Up by 10 at the half, the Dustdevils extended their lead to 19 in the third quarter. Continuing their dominance in the fourth, the Dustdevils finished the game with a 28 point lead.
 
Senior Jessica Prieto led the offensive charge, scoring 28 points while dishing out eight (8) assists. Junior Hannah Beede scored a season high 19 points for the Dustdevils. Keiona Mathews continued her outstanding season, recording her fifth double-double of the season. Mathews scored 14 points and pulled in 13 rebounds. Rosebrooke Hunt recorded four (4) steals while scoring 11 points.

Head Coach Michelle Bento-Jackson commented on the win after game saying, "This win closes up a good road trip for us. We had a few specific goals that we wanted to accomplish in today's game and the girls did a great job in executing them. We had contribution today from everyone and that is what it is going to take for us to be a successful basketball team."
 
The Dustdevils will be back at home Thursday, January 21. TAMIU will take on St. Mary's in front of hometown fans in a Heartland Conference showdown. Tip-Off is set for 5:30 pm at the TAMIU KCB.
