LAREDO, Texas (January 30, 2016) -- The Texas A&M International University Women's Basketball team extended their win streak to 5 against with a 66-57 victory in overtime over Oklahoma Christian on Saturday afternoon. The Dustdevils improved to 11-8 overall and 8-3 in Heartland Conference play.
Through regulation, the Dustdevils held their ground in developing an edge over the Eagles. With an aggresive push, the Eagles caught TAMIU with two seconds remaining to force overtime. In overtime, the Dustdevils used their home court advantage to secure their victory.
Head Coach
Michelle Bento-Jackson commented on the game by saying, "It was an up and down game for us. We started off not getting into a good flow offensively but ended up finding some rhythm as the game went on. I thought our consistency today came on the defensive end which set the tone for us."
Junior
Hannah Beede led the Dustdevils with a career-high 21 points, including 2 blocks and 2 steals. Seniors
Keiona Mathews and
Jessica Prieto followed with 20 and 14 points of their own, respecitively.
"The team did a good job of keeping their focus as we approached overtime and found a way to get the win." commented Bento-Jackson.
The Dustdevils shot 80% from the line in the win.
Up next, the Dustdevils will hit the road to take on Heartland Conference rival Arkansas Fort Smith. Tip off is set for Thursday, February 4th at 5:30pm.
