FORT SMITH, Arkansas (February 4, 2016) -- The Texas A&M International Women's Basketball team traveled to Fort Smith to take on the Lions in a Heartland Conference battle. The Dustdevils lost the contest 57-62. This was TAMIU's first loss in their last six (6) games. The Dustdevils move to 11-9 overall and 8-4 in the Heartland Conference.
After a tight first half the Dustdevils trailed 25-19. TAMIU came out strong in the third quarter, scoring 24 points. The Dustdevils cut the lead to one (1) twice in the fourth before the Lions went 5-6 from the stripe, leading to the final score of 57-62. TAMIU looked to pound the ball inside, scoring 28 points in the paint.
Keiona Mathews led the Dustdevils in scoring with 26 points. Mathews recorded her seventh double-double of the season, hauling in a game high 14 rebounds. Senior
Jessica Prieto finished the game with 20 points, blocking two (2) shots.
Rosebrooke Hunt battled on the boards, grabbing 12 rebounds.
Head Coach Michele Bento-Jackson commented after the game saying, "Very disappointing game. We didn't take care of the ball and we got out hustled on too many balls. There were areas we were supposed to improve upon from last game and we didn't do that. I need to and will get that straight."
The Dustdevils are back in action Saturday, February 6. Heading to Claremore, Oklahoma, the Dustdevils will face off against Rogers State. Tip-Off is set for 1 pm.
