LAREDO, Texas (January 31, 2016) -- The Texas A&M International Men's Baseball team concluded their weekend series with a 7-2 loss to Southeastern Oklahoma. The Dustdevils are 1-2 after the first weekend of the 2016 season.
Trailing 7-0 heading to the bottom of the ninth, TAMIU used two (2) walks and a
Jeffrey Morgan single to load the bases. With
Ian Acosta at the plate, an errant pitch caught Acosta, walking in a run.
Mario Ramirez followed the at-bat with an RBI single to center, scoring
Daniel Cruz from third. TAMIU cut the lead to five (5) before the final two outs were recorded, the Dustdevils finished with two (2) runs on eight (8) hits. The Dustdevils and Savage Storm have one more matchup on March 16, that game will be played in Durant, Oklahoma.
Jeremy Valadez led all batters with three (3) hits. Acosta and Ramirez each recorded one (1) RBI on the afternoon.
Laredo native
Eduardo Rodriguez got his first collegiate start on the mound. Rodriguez pitched 5.1 innings, giving up just three (3) hits while striking out six (6). Sophomore
Nick Perales threw 2.2 innings. Perales allowed two (2) runs on four (4) hits, recording two (2) strikeouts.
The Dustdevils will be back in action Friday, February 5. TAMIU will take on Angelo State University in a day/night double header. First pitch is set for 4 pm at Uni-Trade Stadium.
