LAREDO, TX -- The Texas A&M International University Men's Basketball team took down conference opponent Rogers State in overtime Thursday night. The win completed a sweep of the Hillcats by both the Men's and Women's teams. TAMIU improved to 9-4 (4-1 HC) while the Hillcats fell to 11-2 (3-2 HC).
After a tight battle throughout the night, the Hillcats sunk three free throws to tie the game at 63 with two seconds left on the clock. The teams traded the lead in overtime before
Anthony Alston sunk a pair of free throws giving the Dustdevils a three point advantage. The Dustdevils never gave up the lead, winning the game 74-72.
Senior
Arkeem Joseph recorded a double-double in the win, scoring 16 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Alston added 20 points and went 10-15 from the free-throw line. Junior
Jordan VanDeKop led the team in scoring with 21 points, shooting 9-14 from the field.
After the game Head Coach Bryan Weakley commented on the team's performance by saying, "
I was proud of the guys because we finished the game with a win. We have struggled closing games so this was a big step for us. We have to keep getting better defensively though. We will only be as good as our defense gets."Up next the Dustdevils take on Heartland Conference opponent Arkansas Fort Smith. The game will take place in the TAMIU KCB, tip-off is set for 3pm CST.
