Second half push downs Dustdevils at home against #9 Angelo State

LAREDO, Texas (November 19, 2016) - The Texas A&M International University Women's Basketball team hosted #9 Angelo State on Saturday. The Dustdevils were defeated 45-82 and move to 0-4 overall.

TAMIU used a late push in the second quarter to cut a Rambelle lead to single digits before the half. After trailing by 15 through 13 minutes of action, TAMIU would come back to cut that lead to nine with 1:12 remaining. Hannah Beede sparked the Dustdevil offense, hitting a 3-3 streak from behind the arc, totaling 11 first-half points. TAMIU forced seven Rambelle turnovers in the first 20 minutes of action.

The Angelo State defense would hold TAMIU at bay in the second half, allowing the Rambelles to pull away. TAMIU was outscored by 14 points in the third and fourth quarters, leading to a 45-82 loss. Rosebrooke Hunt led the Dustdevils second half effort, scoring eight points, bringing in seven boards.

Beede finished with 14 points and eight rebounds while Hunt finished with 13 and eight. Joanna Perez and Beede each finished with three assists.

Head Coach Jeff Caha commented after the game, "We played really hard in the first half, we were focused and other than the turnovers in the first quarter, thought we did well. The second half was a major letdown as I felt we gave up our intensity. Angelo State is a national championship caliber team and if you refuse to work hard and execute, they will put it on you and they absolutely did. Hopefully we bounce back and are ready to go get a win at Kingsville."

The Dustdevils return to action on Tuesday, November 22. TAMIU will travel to Kingsville, Texas to take on the TAMUK Javelinas, tip-off is set for 5:30 pm.
