LAREDO, Texas (February 11, 2016) –The Texas A&M International University Women's Basketball team defeated UTPB 60-47 on Thursday evening. It was TAMIU's seventh win in eight games. The Dustdevils are now 13-9 overall and 10-4 in the Heartland Conference.
TAMIU takes sole possession of second place in the Heartland Conference with the win. The Dustdevils used a 20-9 advantage in the fourth to put the Falcons away. After three (3) lead changes in the first quarter, the Dustdevils held a 31-22 advantage at the half. TAMIU did not surrender the lead once in the final 30 minutes of play.
Senior
Keiona Mathews led the offensive charge for the Dustdevils, scoring 17 points and grabbing seven (7) rebounds.
Jessica Prieto finished with 15 points, dishing out six (6) assists.
Hannah Beede continued her strong play, scoring 10 points while snagging six (6) rebounds.
The Dustdevils used 10 three-point field goals en route to the win. TAMIU shot 10-18 from the free-throw line. The Dustdevils used Falcon turnovers to their advantage, scoring 19 points off of turnovers. The inside game accompanied the hot perimeter shooting, the Dustdevils scored 18 points in the painted area.

Michelle Bento-Jackson commented after the game saying, "It was a good win, however, I'm not happy with some areas. We didn't pay enough attention to detail . It's my job to get things straight and I will."
The Dustdevils will be back in action Saturday, February 13. TAMIU will take on St. Edward's University. Tip-off is set for 1:00 pm in the TAMIU KCB.
