LAREDO, Texas (February 13, 2016) -- A strong-willed effort by the TAMIU Men's Basketball team wasn't enough to offset their second half foul trouble against St. Edward's on Saturday afternoon. The Dustdevils fell to the Hilltoppers, 64-72, giving them a 15-9 record, which includes a 10-6 record in Heartland Conference play.
In the first half, the Dustdevils switched leads with the Hilltoppers through the first 10 minutes of play, neither team having more than a basket advantage. The Hilltoppers pushed ahead in scoring as they headed to halftime, standing 5 points ahead of TAMIU in the first half.
The Dustdevils were unable to connect on their three point attempts during the first 20 minutes of play, but rallied their efforts to notch 5 beyond the arc in the second half. However, the scoring rushes by the Dustdevils were plagued by multiple fouls, as TAMIU took 14 of their 21 total fouls in the second half.
Junior
Kenny Hatch led TAMIU with a 19-point effort, which also included five assists, five rebounds, and two steals. Senior
Arkeem Joseph continued his leadership for the Dustdevils with a 13-point performance, adding in 8 rebounds and 3 assists.
TAMIU will look to rebound in San Antonio on Thursday, February 18th when they travel to take on St. Mary's for the final time this season. The Dustdevils defeated the Rattlers when hosting them in Laredo this January with a 78-72 final. Tip off is set for 7:30pm CST.
