SAN ANTONIO, Texas (February 18, 2016) -- The Texas A&M International Men's Basketball team hit the road to secure a season sweep over St. Mary's in their 72-62 victory on Thursday evening. With the win, the Dustdevils move to 16-9 overall, and 11-6 in Heartland Conference play. The victory also put the Dustdevils in fifth place within the Heartland Conference standings.
Through the first 20 minutes of play, the Dustdevils found themselves in close competition with the Rattlers. Going into the half, TAMIU headed to the room with a single-point advantage over St. Mary's (27-26). The Dustdevils came back to the floor with a drive to finish. TAMIU stormed ahead early, but foud themselves within close range of the Rattlers with minutes remaining. The teams traded multiple fouls through the final 10 minutes, including technicals, that brought out the grit in Dustdevils. TAMIU held on for the 10 point win at the final buzzer.
The Dustdevils shot 70.0% from the line, 44.4% within the arc, and 44.4% beyond the arc in the victory. Each of these categories left the Rattler's perfomance in the dust.
Senior
Anthony Alston led TAMIU with 23 points, going 10-15 at the line, and added 9 boards. Junior
Jordan VanDeKop stepped up to push his team to victory by collecting 18 points and 5 boards. Senior
Arkeem Joseph added 16 points, including going 4-4 at the line, and 9 boards of his own. Junior
Kenny Hatch went 6-7 at the line, adding 8 points for the Dustdevils.
Up next, the Dustdevils will finish out their 2015-16 regular season campaign on the road. TAMIU faces Oklahoma Panhandle State on Thursday, February 25, and Lubbock Christian on Saturday, February 27. TAMIU will be heading to Tulsa, Oklahoma for the Heartland Conference Championship Tournament during the first weekend of March.
