Dustdevils look to gain ground in final game of road trip

LAREDO, Texas (January 13, 2017) - The Texas A&M International University Women's Basketball team closes out a three-game road trip on Saturday, January 13. The Dustdevils will head up Interstate 35 to take on St. Mary's University at 1pm. 

Last Contest:
The Dustdevils (1-14 Overall/1-4 Heartland Conference) were dealt a 55-76 loss to St. Edward's in their last matchup. TAMIU jumped ahead in early in Saturday's game. The Dustdevils used their best first quarter thus far in the 2016-17 season to take a 24-18 lead, the Hilltoppers would prevail in the final 30 minutes of play. Hannah Beede picked up 21 points on the day, adding nine rebounds. Joanna Perez picked up 14 points and dished out seven assists. Rosebrooke Hunt finished the afternoon with eight points and eight rebounds.

The Competition:
The Rattlers (12-3 Overall/4-1 Heartland Conference) have bounced in and out of the National Top 25 throughout the 2016-17 season. In their last matchup, STMU defeated Oklahoma Christian 84-73. Senior Kiara Etheridge recorded her seventh double-double of the season with 18 points and 16 rebounds to go along with six assists and three steals.

Heartland Conference:
St. Edward's currently holds the top spot in the Heartland Conference, posting a 6-0 conference record. St. Mary's and Lubbock Christian sit in the second and third spots with a 4-1 record. The Dustdevils sit seventh in the Heartland Conference Standings, in front of Rogers State and Oklahoma Panhandle. Eight teams are in action on Saturday, the full schedule can be found below:

History:
The Dustdevils defeated the Rattlers in both contests during the 2015-16 season. TAMIU earned a 73-53 victory in front of home fans on January 21, 2016. TAMIU earned their second victory on February 18, defeating STMU 57-53 in San Antonio. The Dustdevils and Rattlers have met 20 times heading into Saturday's game. STMU currently holds the all-time series lead, 16-4.
