Bargallo Scores Twice as Dustdevils Complete Season Sweep of Oklahoma Christian

EDMOND, Okla. (October 14, 2017) – Sophomore Cio Bargallo scored twice as the Texas A&M International University women's soccer team ended a 18 match road winless streak with a 2-0 victory over Oklahoma Christian on Saturday afternoon in Edmond. It was the Dustdevils first win on the road since beating #22 St. Edward's on Oct. 29, 2015. With the win, TAMIU improves to 3-8-2 and 2-7-1 in Heartland Conference play while OC drops to 2-12-0 (1-9-0 HC).

The Dustdevils recorded 18 shots, one shy of their season-best, in the victory including nine from Bargallo with Araceli Martinez tying a career-high with four. Aubrey Hall (3-6-2) made five saves as she recorded the first shutout for the Dustdevils since Oct. 15, 2016.

Martinez came within inches of putting TAMIU up in the 7th minute but her shot went off the crossbar. Bargallo followed that up with her first shot of the match in the 10th minute that went wide with Abigail Colmenares also seeing her shot go wide in the 15th minute. Valeria Macias put her second shot of the match on goal in the 20th minute forcing a save from OC's Addison Milner with Bargallo forcing another save on the rebound.

After a strong start offensively from the Dustdevils, it was Hall who came up big in the 23rd minute on save on Myah Buhler's header followed up with a save on Corina Marin just a minute later. Bargallo saw a shot saved by A. Milner and a shot off the cross bar before giving the Dustdevils a 1-0 lead in the 34th minute. The Spaniard found the back of the net from 10 yards out after a nice pass from Monica Castro.

OC came out strong in the first five minutes of the second half but the Dustdevil defense stood strong allowing just one shot on-goal off two corner kicks to preserve their one goal lead. Bargallo doubled the Dustdevils' advantage in the 62nd minute after beating the keeper outside the box for a wide-open goal for her 15th of the season. It marked the sixth time in 2017 the sophomore has scored two or more goals in a single match.

The Dustdevils will now return to the friendly confines of Dustdevil Soccer Field for the final four matches of the 2017 season beginning with Rogers State on Thursday, Oct. 19, at 7:30 p.m.
