Dustdevils Fall Short in 2-0 Loss to Rogers State

LAREDO, Texas (October 19, 2017) – The Texas A&M International University women's soccer team struggled to find any offensive rhythm against the Rogers State defense en route to a 2-0 defeat on Thursday night at Dustdevil Soccer Field in Laredo. The loss drops the Dustdevils to 3-9-2 overall and 2-8-1 in Heartland Conference play while the Hillcats improve to 11-3-1 (7-3-1 HC).

The Dustdevils had 10 shots on the night compared to the 19 of the Hillcats making them 0-9-2 when being outshot. Valeria Macias and Nicole Cohen registering three shots. Aubrey Hall (2-7-2) made four saves in her 11th start of the season.

Hall came up big for the Dustdevils in the 6th minute making a save at the far post on a shot from Daisy Cardona. RSU continued to pressure the Dustdevil defense as Madison Murray was denied by the crossbard in the 9th minuted.

The Hillcats went ahead in the 29th minute on Hannah Mushisky's seventh goal of the year as she headed Madison Murray's cross from the left side near the byline. Bargallo had a great chance to put the Dustdevils on level terms in the 31st minute but her shot was saved after the sophomore striker pounced on a failed clearance by RSU.  Susanna Abrahamsson came within inches of scoring her first career goal in the 35th minute off a free kick from 25 yards out but her shot went off the crossbar and out of bounds.

The Dustdevils spent most of the second half defending before Mushisky scored her second of the game in the 65th minute on an assist from Janell Hernandez. Michelle Salinas recorded the only shot on-goal for the Dustdevils in the secon half in the 85th minute on a shot from 25 yards out on the right side of the pitch.

The Dustdevils now turn their attention to Saturday's, Oct. 12, match against Newman. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m.
