LUBBOCK, Texas (October 27, 2017) - The Texas A&M International University Volleyball team closes out the road portion of the 2017 regular season on Saturday. The Dustdevils will take on Lubbock Christian in Lubbock, Texas.
TAMIU comes into Saturday's match after falling twice at home. The Dustdevils were dealt a 1-3 loss to St. Edward's on October 19 before falling 0-3 to Dallas Baptist on October 21. TAMIU enters the weekend with a 2-20 overall record and a 0-8 mark in Heartland Conference play. Saturday's match will mark the second and final time in the 2017 season that the Dustdevils and Lady Chaps will face off. In their last matchup, TAMIU fell 0-3 in Laredo.
A LOOK AT THE ALL-TIME SERIES:
In 12 meetings all-time, LCU leads the series with a 12-0 record, including the 3-0 win in September.
SCOUTING THE LADY CHAPS:
The Lady Chaps come into Saturday's match after falling in five sets to St. Mary's at home on Thursday. LCU has lost two of their last three matches including a 3-0 loss to West Texas A&M and a 3-2 win over Arkansas-Fort Smith. The Lady chaps hold an 8-15 overall record with a 5-4 mark in Heartland Conference play.
LCU is led offensively by Lauren Zoller, Brynn Warnack, and McKaley Johnson. Zoller leads the team with 234 kills and is averaging 2.75 kills per set. Warnack has a team high 461 assists and Johnson leads the team with 16 service aces.
Defensively, the Lady Chaps look to Kelsie French and Jaiden Kennedy. Kennedy averages .83 blocks/set and has recorded a team high 71 this season. French is the team leader in digs with 511.
DUSTDEVIL LEADERS:
Leah McManus and
Ronnie Fountain continue to pace the Dustdevils offensively. McManus is averaging 2.14 kills per set and has a team high 165 kills this season. Fountain leads the Dustdevils with 551 assists through 22 games. McManus also leads the team in service aces with 25 this season.
Lacy Asdourian and
Panebi Shirey hold down the Dustdevil defense as Asdourian accounts for 241 digs.
Alejandra Bustamante has added 181 digs. Shirey averages .58 blocks per set and has recorded 44 blocks this season.
UP NEXT:
After Saturday's match the Dustdevils will return to Laredo and close out regular season play in the TAMIU KCB. Following Saturday's match, TAMIU will host Newman and Arkansas-Fort Smith before hosting St. Mary's University for Senior Night on November 9.
