TAMIU looks to rebound against Newman

WICHITA, Kansas (October 6, 2017) - The Texas A&M International University Volleyball team continues a two-week road trip against Newman University on Saturday in Wichita. 

The Dustdevils will look to get back in the win column after falling to Arkansas Fort Smith on Thursday night. UAFS delt TAMIU a 0-3 loss, moving the Dustdevil record to 2-16 overall (0-4 Heartland Conference). The Dustdevils will take on Newman for the 21st time in program history on Saturday. In the 20 previous matchups, Newman holds a 13-7 lead. 

SCOUTING THE JETS:
Newman comes into Saturday's match 2-2 in the Heartland Conference and 8-12 overall. The Jets have lost three of their last four matches with the most recent coming against St. Mary's on October 5. The Jets and Rattlers would play five sets with StMU prevailing 3-2. Newman is led offensively by Emily Harvey, Megan Pederson, and Regan Roth. Harvey leads the team with 264 kills while Pederson has accounted for 440 assists. Roth leads the Jets with 19 aces through 20 games. 

THE HEARTLAND CONFERENCE TODAY:
Arkansas - Fort Smith held their spot atop the leaderboard after dealing TAMIU a 0-3 loss on Thursday. St. Mary's holds sole possession of second place with a 3-1 record while Newman and Dallas Baptist sit at 2-2 in a tie for third place. St. Edward's and Lubbock Christian both sit at 2-3, one spot above the Dustdevils. 

DUSTDEVIL LEADERS:
Leah McManus, Ronnie Fountain, and Yuliia Hupkovska continue to lead the Dustdevils offensively. McManus has picked up 140 kills while Hupkovska leads the team with 18 aces. Fountain has tallied 456 assists thus far. Defensively, Panebi Shirey and Lacy Asdourian power the Dustdevils. Asdourian accounts for 231 digs while Shirey has picked up 39 blocks.
