SAN ANTONIO, Texas (October 7, 2017) – Sophomore
Cio Bargallo had another historic performance on Saturday afternoon as the Texas A&M International University women's soccer battled to a 2-2 draw against St. Mary's in front of 130 fans at Sigma Beta Chi Field in San Antonio. The draw moves the Dustdevils record to 2-7-2 overall and 1-6-1 in Heartland Conference play while the Rattlers are now 6-4-2 (3-3-2).
Bargallo tallied her 12
th and 13
th goals of the season in the draw breaking Erika Alcaraz's school records for most goals and points in a single season. She also broke Kim Garcia's record for most multi-goal matches in a career with six, five of those coming this season.
Araceli Martinez also had a strong performance as the junior had a team-high four shots while the Dustdevils were outshot 20-15 during the match.
Aubrey Hall (2-5-2) was back in goal for the Dustdevils as the Sacramento, Calif. native had nine saves on 20 shots faced.
It was the Dustdevils that struck first in the 20
th minute scoring a goal on the road for the first time in over 700 minutes. It was Bargallo who beat StMU's Erin Longford on a one-on-one at the lower left post for her 12
th of the season.
Valeria Macias was credited with the assist bringing her season total to two and moving up her to second on the team in points with five.
The Rattlers equalized just 27 seconds into the second half on Alexia Maldonado's second of the season before taking the lead in the 56
th on a penalty kick from Roxy Cruz Santory after the Dustdevils struggled clearing a corner kick.
Bargallo scored her second of the game and school-record 13
th of the season in the 76
th minute on a free kick tying the match a 2-2. The Blanes, Spain product curled the ball into the top left corner out of the outstretched hands of Longford notching her second match-tying goal after 75 minutes of the season.
The Dustdevils will hit the road for the final time this season next week with matches at Lubbock Christian (Oct. 12) and Oklahoma Christian (Oct. 14).
