LAREDO, Texas (November 1, 2017) - The Texas A&M International University Volleyball team returns to action on Thursday, November 2. The Dustdevils will host Newman University at 7pm in the TAMIU KCB.
Thursday's match marks just the fourth home match for the Dustdevils this season after hosting Dallas Baptist on October 21. The Dustdevils will play their final three regular season games at home, beginning with Thursday's match.
TAMIU enters the final stretch after a 0-3 loss to Lubbock Christian University on October 28. The Dustdevils enter Thursday's match with a 2-21 mark overall, posting a 0-9 Heartland Conference record.
A LOOK AT THE ALL-TIME SERIES:
Thursday's match will mark the second time the Jets and Dustdevils face off in the 2017 season. The teams last faced off in Wichita, Kansas on October 7. The Jets dealt TAMIU a 0-3 loss. Thursday marks the 22nd time the teams face off in either programs history with newman leading the all-time series 14-7.
SCOUTING THE JETS:
Newman enters Thursday's match after falling twice in their last three matches. The Jets last win came on October 23 when they defeated Friends University 3-0. Most recently, the Jets fell to Dallas Baptist (0-3) and St. Edward's (2-3). The Jets sit in the sixth spot on the Heartland Conference leaderboard with an overall record of 10-18, posting a 3-6 Heartland Conference record.
THE JET LEADERS:
Emily Harvey, Reagen Roth, and Kayla Turner pace the Jet offense through 28 games this season. Harvey leads the team with 357 kills while Roth has accumulated 594 assists thus far. Turner's 29 service aces mark a team-high for Newman.
The Jet defense runs through Anna Burton and Crystal Powell. Powell has recorded a team high 80 blocks this season while Burton accounts for 567 digs.
DUSTDEVIL LEADERS:
Leah McManus and
Ronnie Fountain continue to run the Dustdevils offensive attack. McManus accounts for 25 service aces and a team-high 175 kills.
Panebi Shirey adds 151 kills while
Yuliia Hupkovska accounts for 21 service aces.
Ronnie Fountain has tallied 576 assists through 23 games for the Dustdevils.
Lacy Asdourian and Panebi Shirey hold down the defensive efforts for TAMIU. Shirey accounts for a team-high 49 blocks including five in a 0-3 loss to Lubbock Christian on October 28. Asdourian leads the team with 264 digs in 21 games played.
PAINT THE KCB MAROON NIGHT:
Thursday's match is the inaugural Maroon Out Volleyball match inside the KCB. Fans are encouraged to wear maroon to Thursday's match and the first 50 fans sporting maroon will receive a free three-piece tender meal courtesy of Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen.
UP NEXT:
Following Thursday's match, the Dustdevils host Heartland Conference leader, Arkansas-Fort Smith. Saturday's match is set to begin at 12pm with a free kid's clinic to follow the match.
