Giger picks up second straight double-double, Dustdevils fall to Simon Fraser

BELLINGHAM, Washington (December 19, 2017) - The Texas A&M International University Women's Basketball team concluded play in the 2017 Vikings Holiday Hoops Classic on Tuesday. The Dustdevils faced off with Simon Fraser, the only NCAA Division II institution in Canada. The Dustdevils suffered a tight 71-73 loss, moving to 2-12 overall. 

AFTER 1: TAMIU 20 - SFU 15
The Dustdevils opened the game with a strong offensive push, putting up 20 points in the first 10 minutes of action. The Dustdevil defense would hold the Clan to 15 points and took a five-point advantage into the second quarter of play. 

AT THE HALF: TAMIU 33 - SFU 34
The Clan would respond in the second, outscoring the Dustdevils 19-13. Through 20 minutes of action, TAMIU fell behind by just one heading to the break. 

AFTER 3: TAMIU 54 - SFU 53
TAMIU would come out of the break with a strong third quarter performance for the second straight night. In what has proven to be TAMIU's worst offensive quarter this season, TAMIU has put up strong third quarter performances in their least two games. The 21 point third quarter was the games highest offensive output. TAMIU would hold the Clan to 19 points, retaking the lead by one after 30 minutes of action. 

FINAL SCORE: TAMIU 71 - SFU 73
Simon Fraser and TAMIU would combine to score 37 points in the final 10 minutes of action but TAMIU would come up on the short end of fourth-quarter scoring. The Dustdevils put up 17 points while SFU put 20 on the board, leading to a two-point advantage as time expired. 

STAT LEADERS: 
Three Dustdevils scored double-digit points including a career high 27 from Tantashea Giger, Giger added 11 rebounds and recorded a double-double for the second time in as many games. Passionate Amukamara (19) and Julia Hanni (11) combined for 30 points in the loss.
