Dustdevils set for final non-conference showdown with Rambelles

SAN ANGELO, TEXAS (December 28, 2017) - The Texas A&M International University Women's Basketball returns to action after a short winter break for the final non-conference matchup of the season. The Dustdevils are set to take on Angelo State University on Saturday, December 30.
 
 
The Dustdevils come into Saturday's game with an overall record of 2-12 and an 0-1 mark in Heartland Conference play. The Dustdevils come off a pair of losses at the Western Washington Viking Holiday Hoops Classic. TAMIU was defeated 59-90 to open play by host Western Washington before falling to Simon Fraser 71-73.
 
A LOOK AT THE ALL-TIME MATCHUP:
Saturday marks the second time in two years that the Dustdevils and Rambelles have faced off and the seventh meeting in either programs history. Prior to Saturday's game, the Dustdevils are 0-5 against ASU. The teams last faced off on November 19, 2016 inside the TAMIU KCB. The Rambelles delt TAMIU an 82-45 loss.
 
SCOUTING THE RAMBELLES:
ASU comes into the matchup as the Lone Star Conference's third ranked team with a LSC record of 3-1. ASU sits at 7-2 overall. The Rambelles have won their last three games, including an 82-53 win over Heartland Conference foe St. Edward's on December 18. ASU beat Cameron University 84-70 on December 9 before going 2-0 at the Daytona Hoops Classic on December 18-19.
 
The Rambelles are scoring 74 points per game and outscoring opponents by 15.2 points this season. The team is shooting 39.9% from the field and 35.2% from behind the arc.
 
De'Anira Moore leads the team in scoring, averaging 15 points per game and has put up 135 points thus far. Moore, who averages a double-double also serves as the team leader in rebounds with 11.1 per game (100 total). Madi Greenwood serves as the Rambelle sharpshooter, sinking a team-high 17 baskets from behind the arc.
 
A LOOK AT THE DUSTDEVILS:
TAMIU continues to run the offense through Tantashea Giger who averages 16.2 points per game this season. Giger also accounts for a team-high 93 rebounds. Giger has been a staple at the line this season, making 62 free-throws for the Dustdevils.
 
TAMIU enters Saturday's matchup scoring 59.9 points per game this season while opponents average 71.3. The Dustdevils are shooting 35.9% from the field and 25.6% from behind the arc.
 
THE HEARTLAND CONFERENCE TODAY:
Newman holds the top spot in the Heartland Conference with a 2-0 record. The Jets are 9-5 overall. Lubbock Christian sits in the second spot with a 1-0 conference record and 11-1 overall record. Arkansas-Fort Smith, St. Edward's, and St. Mary's all sit one spot below the Lady Chaps at 1-1 in Heartland play. The Dustdevils join Rogers State and Oklahoma Christian at 0-1.
 
UP NEXT:
The Dustdevils will be off until January 4 when TAMIU is set to take on Lubbock Christian University in Lubbock. Tip-off is set for 5:30pm.
