Dustdevils fall for first time in three games to Texas A&M Corpus Christi

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (December 5, 2017) - The Texas A&M International University Women's Basketball team took on Texas A&M Corpus Christi for the first "official" time in either programs history on Tuesday. The teams have matched up previously over the course of four years but Tuesday's game marked the first time the contest would count towards official statistics and record purposes. Division I TAMUCC dealt TAMIU a 53-34 loss, moving the Dustdevils to 2-9 overall. 

AFTER 1: TAMIU 11 - TAMUCC 18
A tight first quarter of play saw TAMUCC use a late run to take a lead into the second quarter. The teams would combine for 29 points in the quarter but the late run allowed the Islanders to pull ahead 18-11.

AT THE HALF: TAMIU 20 - TAMUCC 23
The Dustdevils used hard defense to hold the Islanders to just five points in the second quarter. The Islanders would hold TAMIU to 9, allowing the Dustdevils to close the gap, but allowed TAMUCC to take a three-point lead into the break. 

AFTER 3: TAMIU 22 - TAMUCC 38
The Dustdevils struggled in the third as the Islander defense held the Dustdevils to their lowest scoring output this season. The Dustdevils were able to put up just two points after the break. a 15 point quarter from the Islanders stretched the lead to 16. 

FINAL: TAMIU 34 - TAMUCC 53
TAMIU would rebound from a sluggish third quarter, putting up points. The late push would not be enough to take down the Islanders as the Dustdevils fell 53-34.

COACH CAHA'S THOUGHTS ON THE GAME:
Head Coach Jeff Caha commented after the game, "I thought we were the more aggressive team tonight but we failed to complete plays. We have to be better as we open conference play on Saturday."

UP NEXT:
The Dustdevils move on to Heartland Conference play for their next matchup. TAMIU will host St. Mary's University on Saturday, December 9. Saturday marks the opening of Heartland action for both teams this season.
