LAREDO, Texas (December 9, 2017) - The Texas A&M International University Women's Basketball team opened Heartland Conference play with a 51-69 loss at home on Saturday. The Dustdevils fell to St. Mary's, moving to 2-10 overall and 0-1 in the Heartland Conference.
AFTER 1: TAMIU 16 - StMU 19
Both teams would come out of the gate strong, combining for 35 first-quarter points. TAMIU led through eight minutes of play before five unanswered points allowed the Rattlers to take a 19-16 lead.
AT THE HALF: TAMIU 28 - StMU 30
TAMIU would outscore St. Mary's in the second quarter but could not cut the lead to a tie before the half. TAMIU held the Rattlers to 11 points, scoring 12. The one-point advantage allowed TAMIU to go into the half down just a basket.
AFTER 3: TAMIU 37 - StMU 45
The Rattlers used a 15-9 third quarter advantage to stretch their lead to eight through 30 minutes of play.
FINAL: TAMIU 51 - StMU 69
TAMIU would find their scoring pace again in thr final quarter, posting 14 points. The Rattlers would do same on the other side of the ball, holding TAMIU to those 14 points while scoring 24. The 10-point difference allowed the Rattlers to deal TAMIU the first Heartland Conference loss of the 2017-18 season.

The Dustdevils head west for a two-game swing in Washington. The Dustdevils will face off with Western Washington University and Simon Fraser (Canada) on December 18 and 19.
