LAREDO, Texas (February 14, 2017) - The Texas A&M International University Baseball team hosted St. Edward's University at Jorge Haynes Field on Tuesday afternoon. TAMIU was dealt a 2-11 loss, moving to 2-2 overall.
The Hilltoppers took an early advantage on Tuesday. SEU plated a run in the first, putting TAMIU behind 0-1. The Dustdevils were unable to push across a run despite putting runners in scoring position in three innings.
St. Edward's added three runs in the fourth and one in the fifth, pushing the lead to 5-0. The Hilltoppers would score two runs in the sixth, seventh, and eighth before TAMIU pushed across a pair of runs.
Ricky Gonzalez came around to score the first Dustdevil run of the afternoon after
Daniel Cruz grounded out to short.
Jeremy Valadez would score the second run after pinch-hitter
Osvaldo Rosas grounded out to short, cutting the Hilltopper lead to nine.
Eduardo Rodriguez got the start on the mound for TAMIU. Rodriguez tossed five innings, allowing one earned run on six hits. Rodriguez picked up one strikeout.
Nick Perales, Erik Garay, and
Hugo Mendiola combined to toss four innings in relief. Garay picked up one strikeout while Mendiola tossed a perfect ninth.
Sergio Pollorena led the Dustdevils at the plate, picking up three hits.
Mario Ramirez and
Alexander Cabezas each picked up a pair of hits while Cruz and Valadez recorded the RBI's for TAMIU.

The Dustdevils head to Odessa, Texas for a weekend series with UT-Permian Basin that begins on Friday, February 17. The Dustdevils will play a double-header with the Falcons with first pitch set for 1pm.
