GOODWELL, Oklahoma (February 23, 2017) - The Texas A&M International University Women's Basketball team traveled to Oklahoma to take Oklahoma Panhandle State on Thursday. TAMIU was dealt a 65-70 loss, falling to 2-23 overall (2-13 Heartland Conference).
First Half:
The Dustdevils held their lone lead in the first quarter after
Nayiri Aslanian converted on a layup. The Dustdevils would tie the game twice through the first 10 minutes but were outscored 9-12 in the first. The Aggies would control the lead through the second quarter, pushing their first half lead to five after 20 minutes of action.
Rosebrooke Hunt led the Dustdevils with seven first half points and eight rebounds.
Second Half:
TAMIU would gain ground in the third quarter, putting up 20 points coming out of the half. The Dustdevil defense held the Aggies to 18 points, cutting the lead to three. A high-paced final 10 minutes saw the teams combine for 46 points. TAMIU would have opportunities through the final minute to bring the game even before late foul shots gave OPSU a 70-65 advantage. Hunt picked up six additional rebounds in the final 20 minutes of action, pushing her total to 14.
Hunt finished with a double-double, scoring 17 points.
Hannah Beede picked up her seventh double-double, scoring 15 points, pulling in 12 boards.
Joanna Perez finished with 12 points while Aslanian finished with 11.
Playoff Picture:
The Dustdevils still sit in the final playoff spot in the Heartland Conference despite the loss. TAMIU will clinch the final spot Saturday with a win over Newman or an OPSU loss to St. Mary's

Jeff Caha commented on the game, "Terrible effort tonight. We had a chance to win two and clinch the seventh seed and looked like a team ready to be done. LAte in the game you trust certain people make plays and the people we trusted the most made some huge mistakes. One more on Saturday to close the trip out."

The Dustdevils travel to Wichita, Kansas for the final game of the 2016-17 regular season on Saturday. TAMIU will take on Newman University with tip-off set for 1pm.
