LAREDO, Texas (February 26, 2017) - The Texas A&M International University Baseball team hosted Texas A&M Kingsville for a doubleheader at Uni-trade Stadium on Sunday. TAMIU was dealt a 2-16 loss in game one, falling - in game two. The Dustdevils move to 3-6 overall.
Game 1: TAMIU 2 - TAMUK 16
The Dustdevils were dealt an early deficit in game one on Sunday. The Javelinas put up six runs through four innings before TAMIU broke into the runs column in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Trailing 0-6,
Sergio Pollorena sent a long ball over the left field wall for his third homerun of the season.
TAMUK added four runs in the fifth and five in the sixth, putting TAMIU down 1-15.
Gavin Tristan would drive in the second run of the day for the Dustdevils in the fifth. Tristan sent an RBI double to left, scoring
Alexander Cabezas.
The Javelinas added a lone run in the ninth, pushing the final score to 2-16.
Osvaldo Raya took the loss on the mound. Raya tossed four innings, picking up five strikeouts.
Jorge Gonzalez,
Erick Garay, and
Eduardo Rodriguez combined to throw five innings of relief.
Game 2: TAMIU 4 - TAMUK 14
The Dustdevils took their first lead of the afternoon early in game two. TAMUK put up one run in the top of the first before TAMIU tallied two runs in the bottom of the inning.
Daniel Cruz got the scoring started, roping an RBI double to left field.
Jesse Phipps would knock in Cruz for the second run on an RBI single to left.
Kingsville would score the next seven runs before TAMIU plated their third of the afternoon.
Erasmo Gonzalez Jr. drove in
Jeremy Valadez on a double down the left field line.
TAMIU would score their fourth and final run in the seventh on a Cabezas homerun. Saturday's homerun marks the second time Cabezas has gone deep this season.
Kyle Keishnick took the loss on the mound, falling to 1-1 on the season. Four relivers completed the final six innings for TAMIU.
Coleman Butler tossed two scoreless innings while
Nick Perales tossed two and a third scoreless, picking up five strikeouts.

TAMIU heads back on the road for their next set of games. The Dustdevils take on Cameron University in Lawton, Oklahoma on March 3 and 4. First pitch on Friday, March 4 is set to begin at 2pm.
