FORT SMITH, Arkansas (March 10, 2017) - The Texas A&M International University Baseball team closed out a three game series with Arkansas Fort Smith on Friday. The Dustdevils were dealt a 2-4 loss and a 0-13 loss in game two. TAMIU moves to 4-12 overall (0-3 Heartland Conference).
Game 1: TAMIU 2 - UAFS 4
After falling behind in the first inning, TAMIU battled back to tie the game at two in the second inning of game one.
William Mora scored the first Dustdevil run on after a Lion error.
Osvaldo Rosas reached first on the play.
Mario Ramirez would drive in the tying run on an RBI single to right.
Alex Medina came around to score on the play.
UAFS would take a lead in the third, stretching the lead back to two runs with a run in the sixth inning.
Osvaldo Raya took the loss on the mound, moving to 0-2. Raya tossed 5.1 innings, picking up eight strikeouts.
Nick Perales tossed two thirds of an inning in relief.
Game 2: TAMIU 0- UAFS 13
UAFS started the second game with a six run first inning followed by seven runs over the next two innings, opening a 13-0 lead through three complete innings of play.
The Dustdevils bats were held in check through four innings before
Mathew Trevino picked up TAMIU's first hit of the game.
Daniel Espinosa would pick up a second Dustdevil hit, putting Trevino in scoring position. TAMIU was unable to bring a run across before the game ended, leading to the 0-13 loss.
Coleman Butler took the loss, falling to 0-1 on the season.
Hugo Mendiola tossed an inning and a third in relief before
Eduardo Rodriguez tossed the final three and two thirds innings on the mound. Rodriguez allowed one run on five hits and picked up a pair of strikeouts.

TAMIU returns to Texas for their next set of games. The Dustdevils will take on the University of Houston-Victoria on Tuesday, March 14. First pitch from Victoria, Texas is set for 1pm.
