Medina, Rosas lead TAMIU past Savage Storm in 7-2 win

DURANT, Oklahoma (March 8, 2017) - The Texas A&M International University Baseball team played a midweek game against Southeastern Oklahoma State University on Wednesday. The Dustdevils picked up a 7-2 win, moving to 4-9 overall. 

TAMIU jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning. With two outs in the top of the first inning, Jeremy Valadez launched a solo homerun over the left field wall. 

The Dustdevils would open a 3-0 lead in the second inning after plating two runs. Adrian Castillo drove Matthew Trevino home on an RBI single to center, plating the second TAMIU run of the ballgame. Mario Ramirez drove home a second run in the inning on sacrifice fly to center, scoring Osvaldo Rosas

The Savage Storm would bring the game within two after plating a run in the bottom of the second. Southeastern would cut the TAMIU lead to just one in the fifth, picking up a second run, making it a 3-2 ballgame in advantage of the Dustdevils. 

TAMIU responded in the seventh inning, stretching the lead to five runs. Alex Medina got things started for TAMIU, picking up two RBI's on a double down the left field line. Valadez and Abel Aguilar would come around to score on the Medina double. Rosas would drive in the third and fourth runs of the inning for TAMIU with one out. Rosas lined a single up the middle, bringing home Medina and William Mora

Through seven complete innings, TAMIU held a 7-2 lead. Despite putting runners in scoring position in the ninth, TAMIU would not score again. The Dustdevils held the Savage Storm scoreless for four straight innings en route to a 7-2 win.

Seven Dustdevils took the mound in the win. Osvaldo Raya got the nod, starting the ballgame. Raya threw two innings, allowing one run on three hits. Dustin Labit picked up two innings of scoreless work, striking out two. Kyle Keishnick tossed two thirds of an inning. Hugo Mendiola. Eddie Rodrigues,and Jorge Gonzalez each tossed an inning. Mediola picked up a strikeout in 1.1 innings. Coleman Butler tossed the final inning. 

Up Next:
Heartland Conference play opens for the Dustdevils on Thursday, March 9. Due to impending rain, the Dustdevils will take on Arkansas Fort Smith a day early. First pitch from Fort Smith, Arkansas is set for 4pm.
