LAREDO, Texas (April 1, 2017) - The Texas A&M International University Baseball team closed out play in a three game series with Lubbock Christian on Saturday. The Dustdevils downed the #14 Chaps 6-3, moving to 7-20 overall (2-10 Heartland Conference).
Strong performances on the mound from Eddie Rodriguez and
Eleazar Rojas led TAMIU to a 6-3 win over the nationally ranked Chaps.
A three-run first inning gave Lubbock Christian an early 3-0 lead. Rodriguez would shut the Chaps down over the next five innings on the mound, allowing TAMIU to get back into the game.
Ricky Gonzalez put the Dustdevils on the board in the fourth after reaching on an errant throw.
Alex Medina would come around to score on the play, bringing the Dustdevils within two runs.
A sixth inning homerun from
William Mora closed the gap, bringing TAMIU within a run of the tie. Medina would come around to score the tying run in the sixth after
Osvaldo Rosas reached on an error.
Medina would put TAMIU ahead 4-3 after doubling down the left field line, scoring
Jesse Phipps. Gonzalez would follow with an RBI single to put TAMIU ahead 5-3, scoring Medina.
Alex Cabezas added an eighth inning insurance run, sending a long ball over the left field fence, putting TAMIU up 6-3.
Rojas relieved Rodriguez in the seventh, tossing two and a third on the mound. Rojas picked up his second win, striking out two Chaps.

The Dustdevils remain at home for their next set of games. TAMIU hosts Houston Victoria at Jorge Haynes Field on April 4. First pitch is set for 1pm.
