Box Score LAREDO, Texas (September 28, 2017) –The Texas A&M International University men's soccer team was unable to overcome two early goals in a 2-1 loss to fourth-ranked Midwestern State on Thursday night at Dustdevil Soccer Field in front of 450 fans. It marked the sixth time that a match between the two programs was decided by one goal. In the loss, the Dustdevils fall to 3-2-2 and 2-2-1 in Heartland Conference play while the Mustangs remained undefeated at 9-0-0 (5-0-0).

Rafael Montabes recorded a match-high six shots while
Michael Iskander had three of his own as TAMIU outshot MSU 16-14.
Jovany Carlino registered his first career goal fort he Dustdevils on his only shot of the match.
Carlos Herrera (3-2-2) made four saves all of which came in the second half.Â
The Mustangs got out to a 2-0 lead in the first 15 minutes courtesy of a penalty kick from Patirkc Fitzgerald in the second minute with Sebastian Venegas scoring his second of the season in the 13
th minute.

The Dustdevils got one back in the 25
th minute thanks to a nice strike from
Jovany Carlino and assist from
Rafael Montabes. TAMIU caught the Mustangs out of position as Montabes used his fancy footwork to go past two defenders before finding Carlino who beat the keeper near post from 20 yards out.

Carlino's first career goal gave the Dustdevils a new energy which nearly resulted in an equalizer in the 29
th minute as
Michael Iskander got his head on the end on a cross into the box. Montabes recorded two of his six shots in the 38
th minute but MSU's All-American Jordan Speed was there to block them away.

TAMIU started the second half putting pressure on the MSU defense as Montabes came close to brining the match level but his left scooted scooted just wide of the goal. Rivera record both of this shots in the following minutes, one of which resulted in a fine save by MSU's Richard Goss.

Herrera came up big in the 77
th minute making a point blank save on MSU's Kristian Martinez at the near post after the junior find space just inside the penalty area. The Dustdevils final opportunity of the match came in the final minute but Iskander saw his free kick from 25 yards out go over the crossbar.

The Dustdevils will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 30, against Oklahoma Christian for Faculty/Staff Appreciation Day. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m.
