LAREDO, Texas (September30, 2017) – Alan Rivera scored twice as the Texas A&M International University men's soccer team returned to the win column with a 2-0 victory over Oklahoma Christian in front of 125 fans at Dustdevil Soccer Field. It is the second consecutive Saturday that the senior has scored two goals as the Dustdevils improve to 4-2-2 overall and 3-2-1 in Heartland Conference play while OC falls to 3-5-1 (1-4-1).

Rivera recorded his second multi-goal game of the season including one from the penalty spot as TAMIU moved to 2-0-1 when the senior registers a goal. Rivera and
Rafael Montabes registered a team-high three shots while
Josh Jones (1-0-0) earned a shutout making four saves in his first career start.

The Dustdevils outshot the Eagles 15-10 with nine of those coming in the final 45 minutes of the match. TAMIU also held an advantage in corner kicks, 8-3, with both teams making four saves.

It was the Eagles who recorded the first shot of the match when Anthony Buchanan put a header on goal in the 2
nd minute but Jones was there to make his first career save. TAMIU proceeded to dominate the match for much of the first half but were unable to find a goal as OC's Gianluca Marchetti made three saves.

Rivera converted his third penalty of the season in the 53
rd minute putting the Dustdevis up 1-0 after ball went off the hand of OC's Nijee Cooper in the penalty area. The Phonex, Arizona put the ball off the right cross bar as Marchetti dove to his left.

TAMIU would double the lead and take the air out of OC's comeback effort in the 77
th minute on another goal from Rivera. It was
Aaron Alvarez who started the counter attack sending a through ball down the left side of the pitch where Rivera  cut inside to beat his defender and launching the ball near post to beat Marchetti.

The Dustdevils will finish their three-match home stand against #11 St. Edward's on Thursday, Oct. 5. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.Â
