TAMIU opens weekend in Georgia against Clark Atlanta

ATLANTA, Georgia (September 7, 2017) - The Texas A&M International University Women's Volleyball team opens a three-day stretch of play in the Peach State with a matchup against Clark Atlanta on Thursday night. The match is set to begin at 6:00 p.m. in the L.S. Epps Gymnasium. 

TAMIU enters Thursday's game after falling in four games at the South Central Classic in Durant, Oklahoma. The Panthers will be playing their second match of the season after falling to Talledega College on Tuesday night 2-3. 

A LOOK AT CLARK ATLANTA:
Clark Atlanta comes into the match 0-1 after a five set match with Talledega College on September 5. Head Coach Alexandria Brown looks to seniors Brittani BrownTyler WilliamsStephanie Gillenwater, Breanna Thompson and Alexis Williams; a strong junior class in Sierra Nelson, Alexis Gaines and Brittany Warren-Dancy as important to the Panthers success in 2017.

The Panthers finished the 2016 season with a 15-15 regular season record while posting a 13-7 SIAC record, earning the #2 seed in the SIAC Volleyball Tournament. Clark Atlanta defeated LeMoyne Owen before falling to Kentucky State and Tuskegee in the final two games of the tournament.

TOP PERFORMERS:
Yuliia Hupkovska kicked off her first season in a Dustdevil uniform with a record setting performance against Southern Arkansas University on September 2. Hupkovska picked up seven service aces, breaking Desiree Ortiz's record of five from 2012. 

Sophomore Panebi Shirey recorded 36 kills and 11 blocks at the South Central Classic. Shirey recorded a team-high 16 kills in a four-set match against SAU. Shirey's performance earned her South Central Classic All-Tournament Team honors.

UP NEXT:
Following the match against Clark Atlanta, TAMIU will play in the Emmanuel College Tournament hosted by Emmanuel College. Play in Franklin Springs, Georgia is set to begin on Friday.
