Dustdevils take Southern Wesleyan to five sets, fall twice in Georgia

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Georgia (September 8, 2017) - The Texas A&M International University Women's Volleyball team opened play in the Emmanuel College Volleyball Tournament on Friday. TAMIU fell 0-3 against Union (TN) and 2-3 to Southern Wesleyan, moving the Dustdevils overall record to 1-6. 

MATCH 1: TAMIU 0 - UNION (TN) 3 (15-25, 23-25, 20-25)
Union used a an early run to go up 6-1 in the first set. TAMIU would bring the match even at seven before Union would go on to take the set 25-15. 

TAMIU would control most of the second match, opening an eight point lead (16-8). An eight-point Union run would bring the match even before Union took the match 25-23. 

Union would close out the match with a 25-20 win in the third set of the match.

MATCH 2: TAMIU 2 - SWU 3 (25-13, 25-17, 18-25, 19, 25, 11-15)
TAMIU jumped ahead early in the second match of the day. The Dustdevils pulled ahead with a dominant 12-point win in the first set, followed by a 25-17 win in the second set of the match. 

Southern Wesleyan would respond by taking the third and fourth set, forcing a decisive fifth match. The five-set match would be the second in just two days for the Dustdevils after beating Clark Atlanta in five sets on Thursday night. 

The Dustdevils would find themselves on the opposite end on Friday night in Franklin Springs after SWU took the fifth set 15-11, dealing TAMIU a 2-3 loss.
