LAREDO, Texas (January 10, 2017) - The Texas A&M International University Women's Basketball returns to the TAMIU KCB to host Oklahoma Christian on Thursday, January 11 at 5:30pm.
The Dustdevils enter Thursday's game with a 2-14 overall record and an 0-2 mark in Heartland Conference play. Thursday will be the first time TAMIU and OC will face off in the 2017-18 season. Currently, the Dustdevils sit one spot above Oklahoma Christian in the overall standings at seventh.
LONG TIME NO KCB:
The Dustdevils return to the KCB for the first time in over 30 days as TAMIU played their last home game on December 9, 2017. The Dustdevils fell to St. Mary's 51-69 in that game.
OVER THE BREAK:
Since playing their last home game, the Dustdevils have taken on four opponents, including a Heartland Conference game against #5 Lubbock Christian just one week ago. TAMIU went 0-2 at the WWU Viking Holiday Hoops Classic before falling to Angelo State and the Lady Chaps.
THE ALL-TIME SERIES:
Thursday marks the ninth all-time meeting in either programs history. The Dustdevils fell to the Eagles twice in the 2016-17 season. The last game between the schools was played on February 11 in Laredo where the Dustdevils fell 58-73. In eight previous meetings, the all-time series is tied at four games a piece.
SCOUTING THE EAGLES:
The Eagles enter play at 4-11 overall this season. OC posts an 0-3 mark in Heartland Conference action this season and sits in eighth place overall. The Eagles enter play losing two of their last four contests, and their last two games. OC suffered two Heartland Conference losses in their last two games which saw the Eagles fall 65-90 to Arkansas -Fort Smith and 77-80 to St. Edward's.
Addy Clift leads the team in scoring with 310 points this season, averaging 20.7 points per game. The Junior has also garnered Heartland Conference Player of the Week honors twice this season. Katie Mayo leads the team in rebounding with 77 boards for an average of 5.1 rebounds per game. Clift doubles as the team-leader in three-point field goals this season, averaging 2.9 makes per game and 44 for the season.
The Eagles are scoring 78 points per game this season while allowing opponents to score 82.1 points per game. The team shoots 40.8% from the field and 31.3% from behind the arc.
DUSTDEVIL LEADERS:
Tantashea Giger continues to pace the team offensively and on the boards, serving as the team leader in both categories. Giger is scoring 15.6 points per game this season and has hauled in 105 rebounds.
The Dustdevils are scoring an average of 58.8 points per game this season while shooting 35.9% from the field. The Dustdevils are shooting 26.5% from behind the arc this season.
