Giger puts up 28 in 71-84 loss to Oklahoma Christian

LAREDO, Texas (January 11, 2018) - The Texas A&M International University Women's Basketball team played host to Oklahoma Christian in the TAMIU KCB on Thursday night. It was the first game inside the KCB in over a month but the Dustdevils were downed 71-84, moving to 2-15 overall and 0-3 in Heartland Conference play. 

AFTER 1: TAMIU 6 - OC 19
The Eagles would jump ahead early in the first quarter as they outscored the Dustdevils 19-6. The Dustdevils were unable to take the lead in the first quarter with the closest deficit being three points early in the first. 

AT THE HALF: TAMIU 28 - OC 40
The Dustdevils would respond to a slow first quarter with a 22 point second quarter. TAMIU would outscore the Eagles by one in the quarter, cutting into the lead before the half. After 20 minutes of play, Tantashea Giger and Passionate Amukamara had combined for 17 points and six rebounds. 

AFTER 3: TAMIU 52 - OC 61
Coming out of the halftime break, TAMIU would put up the best offensive quarter of the game posting 24 points in the third quarter. The Dustdevils would cut the lead to nine after 30 minutes of action after outscoring the Eagles 24-21 in the third quarter. 

FINAL SCORE: TAMIU 71 - OC 84
Oklahoma Christian would add four points to their lead in the final quarter, outscoring TAMIU 23-19. The Dustdevils would cut the lead to six in the fourth but would be unable to sustain the comeback effort, falling to 0-3 in Heartland Conference play. 

STAT LEADERS:
Giger would pick up a career high 28 points despite the loss. The Junior put up 19 points in the final 20 minutes of action en-route the 28 point, four rebound performance. Ashley Perez eyed a triple-double, posting 15 points, nine rebounds, and seven assists in the game. Amukamara was the other of three Dustdevils in double-digits with 13 points, four rebounds, and an assist. Veshae Asaua-Wilkinson led the Dustdevils with a team-high 13 rebounds while Kydell Pearson added three blocks.
