LAREDO, Texas (January 13, 2018) - The Texas A&M International University Women's Basketball team hosted Newman University to close a two-game stretch at home on Saturday. The Dustdevils fell 63-89, moving to 2-16 overall and 0-4 in the Heartland Conference.
AFTER 1: TAMIU 19 - NU 27
Both teams would start the game strong, combining for 46 points in 10 minutes of action. It would be the Dustdevils who came up short to begin the game as NU outscored TAMIU 27-19 to take an right-point advantage into the second quarter.
AT THE HALF: TAMIU 32 - NU 48
The Dustdevils would struggle to find the bottom of the basket in the second quarter, putting up just 13 points. Newman put up 21 points in the second quarter, extending their lead to 16 at the break.
Through 20 minutes,
Passionate Amukamara put up a team high nine points while
Dannia Gonzalez and
LaShae Rolle each put up four rebounds.
AFTER 3: TAMIU 49 - NU 64
TAMIU would come out of the break eyeing a comeback in the second half. The Dustdevils put up 17 points and held Newman to 16 in the third period but could only cut the deficit by one through 30 minutes of action.
FINAL SCORE: TAMIU 63 - NU 89
The fourth quarter would prove costly for a comeback chance for the Dustdevils. The Jet defense held the Dustdevils to 14 points in the quarter while scoring 25 to take the game by 26 points at the final buzzer.
STAT LEADERS:
Amukamara and Rolle would finish the game with a team high 13 points each. Rolle missed a double-double by just two rebounds.
Ashley Perez and
Veshae Asaua-Wilkinson would each add 11 points in the loss.

The Dustdevils are back on the road for their next two games as TAMIU will take on Arkansas-Fort Smith on Thursday, January 18. Tip-off is set for 5:30pm.
