Hot start not enough to down Hilltoppers at home

LAREDO, Texas (January 27, 2018) - The Texas A&M International University Women's Basketball took on St. Edward's University inside the TAMIU KCB on Saturday afternoon. Despite a hot start to the game, TAMIU would fall 58 - 74. TAMIU now sits at 2-19 overall and 0-7 in Heartland Conference action. 

AFTER 1: TAMIU 17 - SEU 8
The Dustdevils would jump ahead early in Saturday's action, posting 17 points in the first quarter. The Dustdevil defense stood strong, holding the Hilltoppers to just eight points. Through 10 minutes of play, the Dustdevils would hold a nine-point advantage. 

AT THE HALF: TAMIU 25 - SEU 33
TAMIU would not be able to hold the lead in the second as SEU put up 25 points in the second quarter. The Hilltopper defense would hold TAMIU to eight points in the quarter. The SEU offensive effort erased a nine-point deficit as the Hilltoppers took an eight-point lead into the locker room. 

AFTER 3: TAMIU 41 - SEU 59
The Hilltopper offense would add 11 points to their halftime lead in the third quarter, posting a 26 point quarter. The Dustdevils would double their offensive output in comparison to the second, putting up 16 points. The 16 point effort would not be enough as SEU took a 18 point lead into the final quarter.

FINAL: TAMIU 58 - SEU 74
The Dustdevils would outdo the Hilltoppers in the final quarter, putting up 17 points while the Hilltoppes were held to 15 on their end. Despite outscoring the Hilltoppers, TAMIU would not be able to make up the deficit before the final buzzer sounded with SEU ahead by 16. 

STAT LEADERS:
Three Dustdevils would post double-digit points in the loss, Julia Hanni led the team with 15 while Tantashea Giger and LaShae Rolle each added 14. Giger added 12 rebounds for her third double-double of the season.
