#5 Lady Chaps deal Dustdevils 53-73 loss in Lubbock

Box Score LUBBOCK, TEXAS (January 4, 2018) - The Texas A&M International University Women's Basketball took on the nation's #5 team to open the 2018 portion of the season on Thursday. The Dustdevils fell to 2-14 overall and 0-2 in the Heartland Conference after a 53-73 loss in Lubbock. 
 
AFTER 1: TAMIU 16 – LCU 17
The Dustdevils would not let a 12-1 LCU team pull ahead early in Thursday's matchup. TAMIU and LCU combined for 33 points in the first 10 minutes of action. The Dustdevils put up 16 points while the Lady Chaps pulled ahead by one, posting 17 first-quarter points.
 
AT THE HALF: TAMIU 30 – LCU 44
The Lady Chaps would find their offensive stroke in the second quarter, opening a 14 point lead over the Dustdevils. TAMIU would be held to 14 points while LCU posted 27 second-quarter points.
 
AFTER 3: TAMIU 39 – LCU 59
TAMIU would find themselves slipping behind through three quarters of play as the Lady Chaps outscored the Dustdevils 15-9 in the third quarter, pushing the lead to 20 through 30 minutes of action.
 
FINAL: TAMIU 53 – LCU 73
The Dustdevils and Lady Chaps would play to a 14-14 tie in the final 10 minutes of action at the Rip Griffin Center. Despite opening a 27 point lead in the fourth, TAMIU kept the deficit at 20 as the final buzzer sounded.
 
UP NEXT:
The Dustdevils will return home after taking on LCU for a two-game homestand where TAMIU hosts Oklahoma Christian and Newman. The Eagles and Dustdevils will face off on January 11 inside the TAMIU KCB with tip-off set for 5:30pm.
