LAREDO, Texas. -Â Senior Rodrigo Zuniga led Texas A&M International (7-6-2, 4-5-1 HC) to a 5-1 rout of UT Permian Basin (1-14-1, 0-11-1) with his two goals on Senior Day.
TAMIU got things going early in the game as Johan Portales scored the first goal in the third minute with a shot that went from the left side to the right corner of the goal off a long pass from Gabriel Arias. The Dustdevils had several other opportunities to score in the half, but couldn't capitalize on them.
After only taking two shots in the first half, UTPB finally got on the board with the equalizer from Jacob Tellez on a pass from Quirin Scharrer.Â
TAMIU responded by scoring three quick goals in three minutes. The first came from Charlie Michel in the 64th minute as he fired a shot in from 10 yards out with an assist from senior Rafael Montabes. Zuniga then scored both of his goals, with the first coming in the 65th minute off a pass from Cem Izgec. The second came in the 67th minute as he headed in the goal off a corner kick from Michel.
Jay Vega put the game away in the 86th minute with a goal and an assist from Portales.
The Dustdevils will begin the final road trip of the regular season as they travel to San Antonio to face off against rival St. Mary's.
