TAMIU Falls To Lions On Senior Day

LAREDO, Texas. - Texas A&M International (5-17, 3-5 HC) fell to UAFS (12-11, 5-3 HC) in straight sets (27-29, 21-25, 15-25) Saturday on Senior Day.

Senior Lacy Asdourian had a banner day as she logged 29 digs in route to moving into eight place in the All-Time Career Digs list at TAMIU, passing Andrea Mitchell (2011-12) and Danielle Gilley (2007-09) who were in ninth and eighth place respectively.

The first set was extremely close early with both teams trading points. The Dustdevils managed to break out to a 13-6 lead, thanks to an 8-1 run. The Lions would battle all the way back to cut the lead to 17-16, however TAMIU responded by pushing the lead back out to 20-16. UAFS continued to grind and tied the set at 24-24, and took their first lead at 25-24. From there both teams began to trade points again, but the Lions came out on top, winning the set 29-27.

UAFS used the momentum from the first set to propel themselves to a 3-0 start in the second set. However, the Dustdevils rallied and tied the set at 5-5. The Lions responded by going on an 8-2 run to take a 13-7 lead. They would push out to a 17-11 lead and start a 6-1 run that ended with a 22-12 lead. TAMIU tried to mount a comeback, trimming the lead to 24-21, but were unable to complete it as UAFS took the set 25-21.

The beginning of the third set looked similar to the start of the first set as both teams traded points early. However, a 5-1 run put the Lions up 8-5. From there, they never trailed again and took the match and the set with a 25-15 decision.

The Dustdevils will close out the regular season home slate on Tuesday, Oct. 23 as they face off against St. Mary's at 7 p.m.
