LAREDO, Texas -Â Texas A&M International (5-18, 3-6 HC) dropped their home finale to St. Mary's (13-11, 7-2 HC) in straight sets (25-16, 25-16, 25-20) on Tuesday.
Lacy Asdourian paced the Dustdevils with her 16 dig, four assist night. With her performance tonight, she moved into the eighth place in Single Season Digs at TAMIU. She is only 12 digs away from moving up to seventh place.
Ronnie Fountain also had a banner night for the Dustdevils, joining the elite 1,000 career assist club with her 18 assists on the night. She now holds 1,013 assists for her career, and is only 50 away from sixth place All-Time.
The Rattlers came out the gate hot as they opened on a 3-1 run. They proceeded to hold the lead for much of the early goings, but the Dustdevils fought their way back to take their first lead at 10-9. However, St. Mary's counter punched with a 9-1 run taking a 18-12 lead. They eventually took the set 25-16.
The second set looked very similar with the Rattlers taking a 7-3 lead early. From that point they didn't trail again in the frame, and eventually took the 25-16 decision.Â
After the break, St. Mary's again rolled up a 7-3 lead early. However, this time TAMIU battled back and thanks to a 7-1 run took a 10-8 lead. That lead would be short lived, as the Rattlers retook the lead 12-10. The Dustdevils responded retaking the 13-12. The two teams traded leads for short while until St. Mary's took the advantage to stay at 18-16, and eventually took the set and match 25-20.
TAMIU will close out the regular with a three-game road trip beginning on Thursday, Oct. 25 as they travel to Lubbock, Texas to face off against Lubbock Christian.
