SALT LAKE CITY - Texas A&M International women's basketball (0-3) fell 89-58 to Westminster on Friday.
Christine Ortega paced the Dustdevils with 13 points, as well as four rebounds, two assists and a steal. Ashley Perez put up 12 points, three rebounds and three assists. Tantashea Giger contributed 11 points and three rebounds.
The Griffins started the game on a 7-0 run and never trailed in the game. The Dustdevils would rally and cut the lead to three at 8-5 midway through the first quarter, however that would be as close as they would get. WC continued to extend their lead and carried a 21-10 lead into the final 10 minutes of the half.
In the second quarter, TAMIU showed some fight as they cut the lead to 25-20 two minutes in, but the Griffins responded with an 11-0 run to take a 36-20 lead. They eventually took a 48-28 lead into the intermission.
The second half was all WC as they pushed out to their largest lead of the game at 84-49 with just under four minutes left in the game. They eventually took the win 89-58.
TAMIU will be back in action again on Saturday, Nov. 17 as they face off against Colorado Christian in Salt Lake City.
