TAMIU Falls in Season Opener To Chadron State

LAREDO, Texas -  Texas A&M International women's basketball (0-1) fell in the season opener 55-51 to Chadron State (1-0) on Friday.

Tantashea Giger led the squad with 15 points, as well as two rebounds and two assists. Jaden Gonzalez posted 10 points with four rebounds, an assists and a steal. Lashae Rolle contributed eight points, with six rebounds.

This was a tightly contested game start to finish. The Eagles opened with a 3-0 lead midway through the first half. However, the Dustdevils took their first lead at 5-3 with 5:15 left in the period. They held the lead most of the remainder of the period, going up by as many as five points at 10-5. CSC battled back and tied things at 11-11 at the end of the quarter.

The Eagles carried that momentum into final 10 minutes of the half as they retook the lead 13-11 in the first minute. The next few minutes were a back and forth affair with four lead changes and two ties. CSC came out on top with 21-19 lead. They pushed their lead to its largest at 30-22 with 1:26 left in the half. They carried a 30-24 advantage into the intermission.

With the start of the second half, TAMIU came out looking to chip away at the lead. They did just that, and retook the lead 31-30 with 3:34 left in the period. However, the Eagles retook the lead and took a 37-35 advantage into the final 10 minutes.

CSC started the fourth quarter on a hot streak, building up their lead to 41-35 in the first two minutes. The Dustdevils were able to respond by cutting the lead to a point multiple times in the period, but were unable to complete the comeback and fell 55-41.

TAMIU is back in action on Saturday, Nov. 10 as they face off against Black Hills State at 7 p.m.
