LAREDO, Texas - Texas A&M women's basketball (0-8) fell to Huston-Tillotson (5-1) in a 98-59 decision on Saturday.
Jaden Gonzalez led the Dustdevils with 21 points as well as three rebounds, four steals and two assists. Ciera Walker added 14 points with three rebounds and an assist. Christine Ortega finished a point and rebound shy of a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds, in addition to two steals and an assist.
The game was tight in the early going with both teams trading leads. However, the Rams when up to stay at 9-3. In fact, their lead was built mostly on made three-point shots, in which they shot 5-for-7 in the first quarter. The Dustdevils were able to keep things within two possessions for the period. Huston-Tillotson took a 25-16 lead into the final 10 minutes of the half.
The second quarter was all Rams as they outscored TAMIU 30-11 in the period. They took their first 20-point lead at 41-20 with 3:41 left in the half, and took a 55-27 lead into the intermission.Â
The Dustdevils tried to mount a comeback in the second half, cutting the lead to 20 points at 60-40. However, that would be as close as they would get. Huston-Tillotson pushed out to its first 30-point lead early in the fourth quarter at 76-45, and eventually took the victory 98-59.
TAMIU will be back in action on on Saturday, Dec. 8 as they travel to Corpus Christi, Texas to face off against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.Â
