CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - Texas A&M women's basketball (0-9) fell to Division I Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (4-4) in a 84-36 decision on Saturday.
Alliyah Bryant led the Dustdevils with 13 points as well as three rebounds and a steal. Vanessa Oyola finished with 11 points, two rebounds and two steals. Ciera Walker contributed eight rebounds.
This game was all Islanders from the start as they opened on a 14-2 run. They continued to roll as they finished the first quarter with a 20-7 lead. TAMIU showed some fight in the final 10 minutes of the half as they managed to cut into the lead 24-13 in the second quarter. However, TAMUCC took a 36-22 led into the half.
The Dustdevils got started on the right foot out of the break as Bryant drained a three to cut the lead 36-25. Unfortunately, the Islanders counterpunched with a 6-0 run jumping back out to 40-25. They would continue to roll, taking their first 20-point lead at 48-28 and their first 30-point lead at 58-28. They closed out the quarter with a 69-30 lead going into the final 10 minutes of the game. TAMIU was able to curtail the long point runs in the fourth quarter, but were unable to cut into the lead much, falling 84-36.
TAMIU will be back in action on Tuesday, Dec. 11 as they travel to San Angelo, Texas to face off against Angelo State at noon.Â
