Ninth inning rally not enough against UHV

LAREDO, Texas (February 16, 2018) - The Texas A&M International University Baseball team opened a three-game series against Houston-Victoria on Friday afternoon. TAMIU fell 1-3 to the Jaguars in the first game at Jorge Haynes Field this season. The Dustdevils move to 0-4 on the season.

Senior Eleazar Rojas got the nod on the mound in game one. Rojas would go six innings, fanning nine Jaguars in the process. Two unearned runs would cross the plate in the first inning. The Jaguars would add a run in the eighth, taking a three-run advantage. A late rally would allow TAMIU to push a run across in the bottom of the ninth. The game would end on a flyout to left field with the bases loaded, leaving the winning run on first.

HIGHLIGHTS:

Rojas' impressive start: Following Friday's start, Senior Eleazar Rojas has tossed 13 innings on the mound. In his two starts this season, Rojas has picked up 19 strikeouts. The Senior has yet to allow an earned run to cross the plate.

Silent bats: The Dustdevils were held to just two hits on Friday afternoon. Just one week after out-hitting opponents in two of three games, the Dustdevils tallied their lowest hit total thus far.

Curse of the walk: The Dustdevils and Jaguars would both face issues giving up free bases on Friday. Seven Dustdevils would reach first via the walk while eight Jaguars would find the same fate.

Stay right where you are: Despite the loss, TAMIU was able to keep runs to a minimum on Friday. The Dustdevils stranded 12 UHV runners on base in the game.

UP NEXT:
The Dustdevils close out play in the series on Saturday at Jorge Haynes Field. A doubleheader will close out the weekend with first pitch set for 12 p.m.
