Box Score TULSA, Oklahoma (March 1, 2018) - The Texas A&M International University Women's Basketball opened the 2018 Heartland Conference Championship against top-seeded Lubbock Christian on Thursday. The Dustdevils fell to the nations second ranked team 42-78, ending the 2017-18 season in the quarterfinal round.
AFTER 1: TAMIU 7 - #2 LCU 12
The Dustdevils and Lady Chaps combined for 19 points in the first quarter of action on Thursday. A back and forth first quarter saw the teams trade leads four times before LCU took the five point advantage late in the quarter.
AT THE HALF: TAMIU 19 - #2 LCU 27
The Lady Chaps would open a 10-point lead in the second quarter if action but the Dustdevils never let the game slip away. TAMIU would give battle to the Lady Chaps, cutting the lead to just eight points through 20 minutes of action.
AFTER 3: TAMIU: 27 - #2 LCU 60
LCU would come out of the break with a hot touch on the floor. The Dustdevils were unable to contain the offense as LCU put up 33 points while holding the Dustdevils to eight points. An early deficit stretched to 33 points after 30 minutes of play.
FINAL: TAMIU 42 - #2 LCU 78
The Dustdevils would put together their best offensive quarter in the final 10 minutes of play at the UMAC. TAMIU put up 15 points in the fourth while the defense worked to hold LCU to 18 points.
STAT LEADERS:
Tantashea Giger closed her first season as a Dustdevil with 14 points, eight rebounds, and four steals.
Ashley Perez put up nine points while
Passionate Amukamara and
Jaden Gonzales each added seven points in the loss.
