SAN ANTONIO, Texas (March 17, 2018) - The Texas A&M International University Baseball team closed out non-conference action in San Antonio on Saturday. The Dustdevils played the back end of a four-game series against St. Mary's University. The Dustdevils fell 2-6 and 9-13, moving to 8-13 overall.
GAME 1: TAMIU 2 - StMU 6
Ruben Solis started game one for the Dustdevils, tossing four and a third innings on the mound. Solis struck out three but fell to 1-2 on the season.
Mauro Luna tossed the remaining inning and two thirds for TAMIU.
After falling behind by four in the first inning, TAMIU picked up their first run of the game in the fourth.
Kobrey Garcia drove in
Jorge Napoles after singling down the right field line. TAMIU cut the lead to four in the seventh after
Mario Ramirez scored on an
Abel Aguilar groundout.
GAME 2: TAMIU 9 - StMU 13
Kyle Kieschnick started the final game of the series for TAMIU but fell to 1-4 after tossing two thirds of an inning.
Erick Garay tossed the next five innings for the Dustdevils before
Mark Trimble tossed a third of an inning, picking up a strikeout.
Justin Diaz and
Coleman Butler each tossed an inning to close out the game. Butler and Diaz each picked up a pair of strikeouts.
After falling behind by eight runs early, the Dustdevils battled back into the game in the sixth, putting up four runs.
Alex Cabezas came across for TAMIU's first run after a bases loaded walk.
Mathew Trevino and
Daniel Espinosa would score on a fielders choice off the bat of Napoles. Aguilar would come in for the fourth run after an error at third. Despite coming within four runs, StMU put up five in the bottom of the inning to take a 13-4 lead.
Aguilar would cut the lead to eight after scoring on a bases loaded walk in the eighth.
Mario Ramirez would drive home Napoles on an RBI single to right, cutting the lead to seven. The Dustdevils cut the lead to four with a three-run ninth inning. Napoles drove home
Ricky Gonzalez on a sacrifice fly to open the inning.
Fernando Contreras accounted for the second run after driving in
Alec Garza on a single to left field. The Dustdevils final run scored after
Kobrey Garcia drove in Contreras on an RBI double.

The Dustdevils return home to open Heartland Conference action against Arkansas-Fort Smith. The teams will play a four-game series on Thursday, March 22 (Jorge Haynes Field), and Friday, March 23 (Uni-trade Stadium). First pitch on Thursday is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
