Early runs aid Dustdevils in 2-1 win over Arlington Baptist

 ARLINGTON, Texas (March 2, 2018) – The Texas A&M International University Baseball team opened a three-game series against Arlington Baptist on Friday afternoon. The Dustdevils picked up a 2-1 win, moving to 6-5 overall.
 
Senior Eleazar Rojas started his third game of the season in the series opener, tossing seven innings. Rojas picked up his first win of the season, striking out 10 Patriots in the process. The Senior would scatter five hits, allowing one run to cross the plate in the second.
 
The Dustdevils were aided by early offense in the win. Ricky Gonzalez drove in the first run of the game with one out in the first. Gonzalez hit a sacrifice fly to center, driving home Alex Cabezas. Matthew Rosales would put the Dustdevils up 2-0 in the second with a solo homerun to left center.
 
Justin Diaz picked up his first save of the season, relieving Rojas in the eighth inning. Diaz tossed two scoreless innings. Diaz struck out the final two batters of the game with the tying run on third base.
 
HIGHLIGHTS:
Strikeout City:
Senior Eleazar Rojas picked up his second 10 strikeout game of the season on Friday. Rojas struck out 10 batters against Cameron University on opening day before repeating the performance Friday. The Senior now has 29 strikeouts on the season.
 
Return of the Longball: Matthew Rosales went yard in the second inning of Friday's game, picking up his first homerun of the season. The homerun was TAMIU's first since a 3-2 win over Houston-Victoria on February 17.
 
The Streak is on: The Dustdevils pushed their winning streak to five games on Friday. The five-game streak is the longest since the Dustdevils opened the 2013 season on a nine-game winning streak.
 
Shut it down Diaz: Justin Diaz picke dup his first save of the season after striking out the last two batters of the game with the tying run on third.
 
UP NEXT:
The Dustdevils close out the three-game set on Saturday with a doubleheader at QuikTrip Park. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.
