Dustdevils head to Lubbock for Weekend Series with Chaps

LUBBOCK, Texas (April 12, 2018) - The Texas A&M International University Baseball team opens a four-game weekend series with Lubbock Christian University on Friday at Hays Field in Lubbock, Texas. It will be the second four-game set between the teams this season, this time around it will count towards each team's Heartland Conference record. 

WEEKEND RUNDOWN:
Friday, April 13
Game 1: 7 Innings - First Pitch: 1:00 p.m.
Game 2: 9 Innings - First Pitch: 3:00 p.m.

Saturday, April 14
Game 1: 7 Innings - First Pitch: 1:00 p.m.
Game 2: 9 Innings - First Pitch: 3:00 p.m.

THE ALL-TIME SERIES:
The Dustdevils and Chaps met in Laredo on March 9-10, 2018 for a non-conference four-game series that saw TAMIU fall 1-3. The Dustdevils used a walk-off hit from Mario Ramirez in the third game of the series to take a 7-6 win. The teams have met 15 times in program history with LCU holding the all-time series lead 12-3. 

SCOUTING THE CHAPS:
LCU comes into the weekend after being swept by St. Mary's in San Antonio just a weekend ago. The Chaps fell 1-3,1-6,3-13, and 3-8 to the Heartland's second ranked team. Despite the sweep, LCU sits at 22-12 overall with a 7-5 mark in the Heartland Conference. 

Andrew Pratt leads the Chaps at the plate, hitting .384 this season. The catcher leads the team with 10 home runs and 31 RBI (2nd). In conference, Pratt is batting .432, a team-high. Will Clark is batting .333 with 17 RBI while Ryan Rogers is batting .331 with a team-high 39 RBI. 

Ricky Contreras and Callan Johnson lead the Chaps in wins this season with five each. Contreras is 5-2 with an ERA of 2.81, striking out 33. Johnson is 5-2 with an ERA of 3.79 with 44 strikeouts. Ryan Johnson (4-3) and Daniel Crooks (3-3) serve as the other LCU starters on the mound. 

LOOKING AT THE DUSTDEVILS:
The Dustdevils enter play after a 1-3 series with Oklahoma Christian at home last weekend. The Dustdevils took game one on the fourth walk-off of the season. Mathew Trevino delivered a bases-loaded single through the left side to give TAMIU a 6-5 win in the game. TAMIU sits at 12-21 overall with a 4-8 mark in Heartland Conference play. 

Mario Ramirez leads the team in batting average, hitting .325 on the season. Jorge Napoles is hitting .321 on the season with six stolen bases and 11 RBI. Mathew Trevino, last weeks hero sits at .316 with four doubles and 12 RBI while Ricky Gonzalez leads the team with 15 RBI. 

UP NEXT:
The Dustdevils remain on the road for their next series as TAMIU will take on Newman University. The Dustdevils and Jets will face off in Wichita, Kansas April 20-21.
